Challenging Times

Challenging times can be seen two ways: 1) as a huge burden, or 2) as an opportunity to grow inwardly and gain more insights.

It is never the person, place or situation that is the problem, but the way we view it. So having challenges arrive at our doorstep, gives us the opportunity to choose, which is the great gift we have all been given.

We can embroil ourselves in the problem, which falsely appears as a barrier or obstacle to our freedom or intention and in focusing our attention on the problem, just make it worse for ourselves. Where attention goes, energy flows. Or we can put our attention on where we want to be in our lives, what we want to become or any other positive outcome, and our energy and the energy of the Universe will flow there. It is a simple solution and merely requires our choice.

Most of us are now facing challenging times, as the energy (read unconditional love) flowing from Source is rising in vibration and we are being challenged to match that vibration. The tendency to resist change is apparent and the old egoic-mind paradigm of wallowing in fear wants to dominate our thoughts, which cause our lower emotions to rise. This is the Is-ness. This is the current Reality and when we argue with Reality, we inevitably loose!!

So our biggest challenge is to go with the flow, accept everything and resist nothing (great mantra to recite every morning and whenever necessary).

Does that mean we condone all the injustices of the world? Does it mean we get to sit on our hands and do nothing? Does it mean we stifle our inherent compassion to want to alleviate the suffering of others? Absolutely not!! But when we are stuck in the ego’s fear, how effective can we be in resolving these issues?

When we offer no resistance to what is, we find ourselves in a place and space of power. A level of clarity and purpose arises and becomes a driving force to bring about change. Now we can become a highly effective change agent.

We are not out of the woods yet! As the old, non-workable paradigms of living, working and playing become dismantled, we will be forced to change and for those that resist this change, much discomfort and suffering will arise.

So it makes sense, go with the flow of life, allow ourselves to be carried downstream, letting go the tendency to swim, exhaustingly upstream and just let the River of Life carry us to wherever it will and eventually, we will all spill out into the Great Ocean of Love.

Bon Voyage !!

August 2011 Heart Mastery Series Retreat

“Life is like a box of chocolates” – said Forest Gump, “ you never know what you are going to get” and so it was with our latest Heart Mastery retreat.

A diverse selection of people from Australia, USA, England, Singapore and Holland made up our ranks, bringing a richness of culture and ideas, some that clearly needing conscious review and others that needed validating.
We waded through the Heart Mastery Series materials, sometimes bring joy, sometimes bringing tears, but always with that inner knowing all would be well.

It takes real courage to go within and face our “shadow side”, for society has conditioned us to do otherwise, diving into work, food, and distractions as an addictive method of avoiding our suffering. And clearly, this has not worked, so instead of avoiding, our brave-hearts chose to dive into the past and face their anguishes head on.

Out of all unpleasant, so-called “negative’ situations, comes the other side of the coin and when we are willing to investigate the pain deeply, wisdom and joy will emerge.

I take my hat off to you dear participants of our August 2011 retreat, for you are the true heroes and heroines of today, making a difference in your own lives and touching the lives of others.

Your choice of love over fear in every minute, is your gift and reward to yourself and others  – a wise choice indeed.

Thanks to you, our world is becoming a better place.

Your mind does not the way

Your heart has already been there

And your soul has never left it

Welcome home                                                                                                                          Robert Burns

With love and much appreciation,

Rick

Getting in the Zone

Talk to any athlete and they will tell you that once they break the pain barrier (not the sound barrier!!), there is a sensation of ease and connectedness, that makes the task seem almost effortless. It’s definitely a physical sensation and a desirable state to be in, especially if you are a long distance athlete like a marathoner, cross-country runner or bike rider.

There is another zone and that is available to us – the mental zone – a state of effortlessness, calm and peacefulness.

So how do you get in the mental zone? There is a way and it has been experienced by many, many people.

When we totally surrender to this moment, accepting exactly what is occurring right here and now, without any resistance whatsoever, a remarkable phenomenon occurs. The mind gives up fighting against the situation and with absolute ease, accepts what is occurring with no resistance, no rejection and no judgment.

When we fight against reality, it is likened to swimming upstream against the current, battling the forces and direction of the water, we soon become exhausted and despairing. When we surrender and let go our resistance, turn and go with the flow, the stream carries us effortlessly along. Our compulsive need to be in control of every waking moment, is a major contributor to our stress.

Does this mean we just lie down and let everyone walk over us like a doormat, or become a passive spectator to life? Not at all, it still gives us the freedom to be, do and have whatever we choose (there’s that word again!) in our lives and to take action if we feel so moved. We are just not doing it under the stress of resistance and non-acceptance.

Working, playing and living in this mental zone of acceptance and non-resistance, is a wonderful peaceful and harmonious way to live.

Give it a try; you have nothing to lose, except your self-created stress!!

Life is a Game – Play it to Win

This may sound competitive, but let’s face it; do we really want to play any game to lose? And of course, winning is not everything – how about playing a game for the sheer joy and pleasure it brings?

The game of life is no different from any other game on the planet, it consists of:

1)    A Purpose

2)    Has Barriers or Obstacles and

3)    Various Freedoms

Let’s explore the anatomy of games a little deeper to gain a greater insight and understanding of our life and the game we are playing.

PURPOSE: All games have as there primary component, a Purpose. If it is the game of football (or soccer), the purpose of Team A is to score more goals than Team B. If it is motor racing, the purpose of Driver A is to pass under the chequered flag ahead of all other rivals.

BARRIERS or OBSTACLES: All games have barriers or obstacles to overcome. Back to our football match where Team A has the following examples of barriers or obstacles to overcome:

  • Team B’s expertise, skill, strategies, professionalism, etc.
  • They cannot touch the ball with their hands (with the exception of the goal keeper)
  • They must remain “On-side” – that is they are not permitted to have one of their men standing near the opposition’s goal, waiting to receive the ball
  • They cannot play the ball outside the marked field.

FREEDOMS: Staying with Team A, we find that they have the freedom to:

  • Play any strategy suggested by their coach
  • Pass the ball in the air or on the ground
  • Substitute any players

Now I challenge you to take any game in existence and analyse it and you will see it contains these three crucial ingredients.

So what is the difference between a game of sport and the Game of Life?

I propose to you, there is no difference. The Game of Life contains the same three elements – a Purpose, Barriers or Obstacles and Freedoms.

Most of us have encountered barriers and obstacles in our life and interestingly enough, the more they are present, it is indicative of the bigger game we are playing. We certainly are aware of our freedoms, or more to the point, lack of freedom depending on where we live. That leaves us with a Purpose and this is where most people get tripped up – they have no idea why they are here or what it is they are supposed to be doing in this life.

The analogy would be a rudderless ship – it is going somewhere, but with no particular destination in mind and quite likely, will run aground at some time in the future.

So to play the game of life to win, we must be very clear about why we are here and what we should be doing with our lives – in other words; we can define our Life Purpose with absolute clarity.

For those living their Life Purpose (and we all come into this incarnation with one), they are filled with passion and purpose, overcome all the barriers and obstacles that they face, know their boundaries and have their freedoms carefully defined.

This is what is meant to be playing the game of life to win.

Play on!!

Heart Mastery Testimonial

Learn to Live a Life of Unconditional Love

Upon arriving in Bali, I asked the Universe to send me a Spiritual Guide. Through a series of events that unfolded naturally, I was lead to Rick and his Heart Mastery Series. For this I am truly blessed.

Rick lives his life with integrity and truly displays the six heart virtues, which form the foundation of what he teaches. Rick has formulated the content of the Heart Mastery Series through decades of being immersed in various spiritual foundations and by living his earlier days attracting what he didn’t want, in order to discover what he did want. This makes him authentic, relatable and approachable. He is truly passionate about his work and life’s purpose.

The Heart Mastery Series was the ideal retreat for me, as I had just made some major life changes and uprooted myself from the comforts that my EGO had kept me in for years. Unsure as to why I had made the decisions I had made, other than “they just felt right”, Rick’s guidance and the unconditional love I received from him and my fellow retreat mates, provided me with a safe environment to go deep within and emerge as a more authentic person, with the conviction necessary to stay on my path.

If you are ready to work hard and go deep, Rick will equip you with the tools to emerge from your EGO and comfort zone, and guide to you live an authentic, conscious life of unconditional love.

A Gaggle of Goddesses

I am constantly reminded of that wonderful movie, “Forest Gump”, starring Tom Hanks, where he tells us that famous line – “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get”.

And so it is that whenever we hold retreats at our Namaste Retreat Centre, we have no idea who is going to show up or their characters. It is a bit of an unfair disadvantage, a pleasant disadvantage I might add, as anyone contemplating attending a retreat here, can read all about us on our website: www.spirituality-bali.com. They arrive on our doorstep knowing what we look like, what orchid colour is their room and what we do. We on the other hand, have had a brief encounter via email and virtually know nothing about our participants.

So our journey of uncovering, works both ways. Retreatants get to uncover who they really are, beyond the veils of illusion and we get to uncover their personalities, characteristics, passions and life stories. What a wonderful adventure!

The June retreat turned out to be very, very special, with the emergence of a “Gaggle of Goddesses”, a name that spontaneously arose and stuck, like flies to fly paper!

An English woman residing in Australia, a South African living and working in Qatar, a Canadian exploring Bali and two Australians made for an eclectic and fascinating group, ready and eager to explore within, to reveal their true identities. And what a journey it was!

Tina, on the surface a kindly grandmother looking far younger than her actual years, revealed her powerful side of healing and spirituality, with knowing nods and recognition, as we delved into the depths of her psyche.

She willingly shared her wisdom and experience with the group and instantly earned their respect.

This extraordinary young woman, Bree, is Tina’s granddaughter and destined for great things in the film industry. Quietly taking it all in at first, courageous Bree-Anne dived into her life and emerged bright and shining, like a new pin. With pinpoint accuracy, Bree knows only too well her Path and what she is to do with her enormous talents. Hearing Bree confidently talking of filmmaking, gives rise to great hope for humanity and the new breed of leaders arising within our ranks.

This is Kylie, the quiet one, with a beautiful smile that radiates from her heart. Kylie is a make-up artist from Queensland, Australia, but more than that, she is a latent healer and this became abundantly clear to all of us as the retreat progressed. Full of questions, Kylie has a natural, child-like curiousity that has lead to her finding many of the answers to life – the heroes journey from the head to the heart.

Looking and sounding like the original Beach Boys -“I wish they all could be Californian Girls”, Jenn hails from Toronto and is an adventurer who found her way to the Island of the Gods using her well-honed intuition. Wise beyond her years, she has rubbed shoulders with many famous people and embraced the corporate world. Her journey inwards has brought her knowingness about life that guides her to treading her Path, in a most profoundly wise way.

And finally, among the Gaggle of Goddesses, our dear friend and fellow traveler, Hermien, naturally galvanised the group together with her wisdom and hilariously funny stories of her earlier days in a daze!

She is a healer, who embraces life to the fullest, facing the challenges head on and overcomes the obstacles with a tenacity to be admired. She is courage and bravery personified.

From various corners of our precious Mother Earth, these extraordinary five women, unique in their own special ways, were brought together for a higher purpose – to bring forth a balance of the masculine and feminine energies on this planet and in doing so have created a wonderful playground of synergy, friendship, respect and honour.

Welcome Gaggle of Goddesses – may your lives touch others in a deeply profound way.

You are greatly honoured and loved.
